Role Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Technical Estimator & Cost Analyst. In this role, you will be responsible for calculating accurate pricing and quotations. You will also conduct post-production analysis—auditing completed jobs to ensure all costs have been captured accurately and comparing actual performance against initial estimates to drive profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Pricing

  • Analyse technical specifications, customer discussions, and engineering drawings to prepare accurate cost estimates
  • Calculate material, labour, and overhead costs required for manufacturing projects.
  • Work closely with the management and engineering teams to understand the scope and technical requirements of each build before pricing.
  • Maintain and update pricing models and databases for raw materials, components, and labour rates.

Job Costing & Tracking

  • Ensure every purchase, labour hour, and operational cost is correctly allocated to its specific project/job number.
  • Monitor ongoing jobs to ensure costs are tracking in line with the initial estimates.
  • Collaborate with the shop floor and procurement teams to capture any variations or additional costs incurred during the manufacturing process.

Post-Job Analysis & Reporting

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of completed jobs, comparing the final actual costs against the original pricing estimates.
  • Identify and report on discrepancies, highlighting areas where the project overperformed or underperformed financially.
  • Provide actionable feedback to management on how to improve production efficiency or adjust future pricing based on historical data.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Estimator, Cost Analyst, or similar role within an industrial manufacturing, heavy engineering, or machinery production environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and job-shop costing principles.
  • High proficiency with spreadsheets and manufacturing ERP/MRP systems for tracking time and materials.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a commercial mindset.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings is highly desirable.
